Philosophy & Vision

As a clinically registered counsellor with PACFA and a registered play therapist with APPTA, I bring over a decade of experience to my practice, encompassing a diverse range of therapeutic modalities and client populations. My journey in the field has been characterised by a deep commitment to supporting individuals and families in their healing processes. Moreover, my tenure in running a private practice has afforded me invaluable insights into tailoring therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each client. Grounded in empathy, respect, and a strengths-based perspective, I approach therapy as a collaborative journey towards well-being, empowering clients to navigate life's challenges with resilience and self-awareness.

Background

Since 2010, Kati has been deeply immersed in the field of counselling, initially serving as a counsellor for adults contending with addictions and mental health conditions at a treatment centre. Witnessing the profound impact of trauma within this setting, Kati felt compelled to expand her focus to include children, recognising the pivotal role early intervention plays in breaking cycles of harm. Drawing from personal experiences as an adoptive mother, Kati possesses a unique understanding of trauma and attachment issues in adopted children, further enhancing her ability to provide compassionate care and specialised support to adoptive families. Beyond her clinical practice, Kati is an accomplished author, with her number 1 bestselling book, 'Navigating Adoption: Desire to Reality,' and empowering self-help journal for women, 'Fresh Start, Full Heart,' enriching the lives of readers with wisdom and insight.

Services

  • Counselling, Family Therapy
  • I offer individual counselling and family therapy tailored to support parents navigating complex challenges. My focus includes foster carers, adoptive parents, and families raising children with autoimmune conditions such as Crohn’s disease. Through a compassionate and practical approach, I provide a safe space to explore emotions, strengthen relationships, and develop strategies that promote resilience, wellbeing, and connection. My services are grounded in compassion, integrity, and respect for each individual and family’s unique story.

    Quality Provision

Each family’s journey is different, and my service provision recognises this individuality. Some families may seek help for communication challenges, stress management, or navigating the complexities of foster or adoptive parenting. Others may be dealing with the emotional impact of managing a child’s long term medical condition. Whatever the circumstances, my focus is to support families in finding practical tools and emotional strength to move forward with greater confidence and connection.

    Therapy Approach

At the core of my therapeutic approach lies a steadfast commitment to person-centred, strengths-based and trauma informed practices, which I believe to be foundational in fostering authentic healing and empowerment. By creating a safe and non-judgmental space, I strive to cultivate an atmosphere of unconditional positive regard, where you are free to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment or criticism. Central to my therapeutic philosophy is the belief in the inherent resilience and strengths of every individual. Drawing from the principles of strengths-based therapy, I emphasise the exploration of your unique assets, and coping mechanisms. Together, we will embark on a journey of self-discovery, uncovering the inherent strengths and resources that lie dormant within you. By shifting the focus from pathology to potential, we can harness your innate resilience to navigate life's challenges.
