I see counselling and psychotherapy as a collaborative process between the client(s) and the practitioner, in which I draw on many different approaches to find the best way to understand the client's experience. I look to understand the patterns of feeling, thought, and relating which are involved in the client's distress, and the reasons for them. It is important to me to listen to my clients in a way that does not pathologise or pass judgment, but feels safe and respectful to them.
Counselling, psychotherapy with individuals, couples and families; professional supervision.
ACT, Dream Work, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Existential, Interpersonal, Marriage and Family, Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Sand Tray, Trauma-Informed
My approach draws on a variety of theoretical approaches, from ACT and CBT to existential, psychodynamic, dreamwork and sandplay, as well as specifically relational approaches such as emotion-focused therapy. I am deeply interested in the interplay between our interpersonal relationships and our experience of ourselves as individuals; I believe all individual growth is through relationship, and this belief informs my work.
I am registered as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority and hold an area-of-practice endorsement in counselling psychology. I hold membership of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc, and of the Australian Association of Family Therapy. I undertake regular continuing professional development.
My training is in psychology and my professional experience has been in both private practice and in community relationship counselling agencies, working with a wide variety of individual, couple and family clients over a period of more than 15 years.
