Philosophy & Vision

I employ a psychoanalytic approach in my work. This entails an approach to therapy which explores the roles of both conscious and unconscious processes in many of the personal issues we encounter in our daily lives. Not one experience is the same and I respect the singularity of each person's experience - the unconscious workings and their effects are unique to each individual person.

Background

I am a social worker with 15 years of experience in various community settings including not-for-profit organisations as a housing case manager in the past and currently as a counsellor in the field of sexual assault and family violence. I have also worked in a local government in the area of community development.

I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis (ACP). I completed the Four Year Program of Theoretical and Clinical Studies in Psychoanalysis at the ACP in 2023. I am an analyst candidate at the ACP which involves 3 different components of rigorous training: personal analysis, clinical supervision and the completion of the four year program mentioned above.

Services

  • Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • I offer psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
I offer in-person sessions, phone and online consultations.

The aim of psychoanalysis is not necessarily the removal of symptoms per se, or the better adaptation to the status quo of our lives, but, instead, it is a process through which we can find a way(s) to bear the desire(s) that lives in and through each of us. It is a process that respects the singularity of each human subject. The role of the analyst is to guide the therapeutic process so that the patient can transform their suffering into a question, a question that concerns desire. It is in this way that psychoanalysis differs from most other forms of therapy.

    Quality Provision

I am a member of Australian Association of Social Workers and Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis. Both memberships require ongoing professional development and clinical supervision which I regularly participate in.

    Therapy Approach

My approach to therapy is underpinned by Lacanian Psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is a practice that is based on speech. Psychoanalysis employs free association, a method first established by Sigmund Freud. Free association involves saying whatever comes to mind without self-censorship. Free association is not a chat, not a conversation, but a means to assist in bringing unconscious ideas and conflicts into conscious awareness. By engaging in this process, the person undergoing analysis can come to elucidate these conflicts in ways that enables a working through. This working through can address the repetition of suffering and can lead to personal change.
