Philosophy & Vision
Rizna (she/they) is a non-binary & queer Integrative Psychotherapist, Youth Worker and Grief-tender. Their therapeutic approach is gentle, collaborative, rooted in cultural humility, grounded in a steady slowness that rests in curiousity, which aims to respect each person’s lived experience, intergenerational trauma and ancestral history that we all carry.
Their work centres both the individual self, as well as the Soul that belongs to a wider ecological weaving story in this human experience that we call life. In our work together, Rizna aim's to support you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself—your emotions, patterns, relationships, and inner world—without judgement. To honour and walk beside, listening deeply and empower you as you find your own way forward.
Background
My working life started in hospitality as a young adult to my late 20's, in all kinds of different venues and places. From cafes, to bars, restaurants as a barista, bartender and head of staff supervisor. That's where my interest and curiousity in people deepened, I have met so many different people from all walks of life. With a brief interaction of taking someone's coffee order, I learnt about who they were, where they're going and when they trusted me, they shared their struggles and dreams. In the last 3 years I have worked in Youth Residential Care homes as a Youth Worker assisting young people with complex mental health challenges and risks of homelessness.

Therapy Approach
I draw from a range of best-practice methods, so therapy can be responsive to who you are and what you need in this moment in time. Rather than relying on a single method, our work integrates modalities that support the mind, emotions, body, spirit and soul. Our work together will be uniquely tailored to you and what you may need moment-to-moment, or perhaps there's a specific problem or long-term issues you would like to focus on to work through. It is also okay to not know what you need or want in engaging in therapy. I believe that not-knowing is a beautiful space to allow something new to emerge, too.

Truthfully, this path chose me.
Growing up I never quite fit in to mainstream norms. Something was missing. Everywhere I went, whom ever I was with. I spend my entire childhood and 20's thinking that there was something wrong with me. When the opportunity to learn and train as a psychotherapist arrived to me, it felt like a jigsaw piece that is the puzzle of my own life was returned to me. And slowly, everything started to make sense...
I have always had an insatiable curiousity about what drives human behaviour and who are we really? Behind the masks we wear and the roles we play. The endeavour to Truth lead me to pursuing Psychotherapy & Counselling as a profession, and it is one of my objectives to help hold a space for someone else to find that missing jigsaw piece that is the puzzle of their life. -
I am connected to my ancestral roots, and I try my best to follow Ayurvedic principles for my health, energy, heart, mind, and body. I've explored many different paths and sought out many different methods of getting somewhere. There's no better place than the here and now (even when I want to run away and escape feeling uncomfortable feelings). Where I am in the human journey is continuing to return to the Now and to understand what it means to feel safe and secure in my own body, and finding true intimacy with people. No matter how deep into the terrain of the underworld or as high into the cosmos, I travel. I am always reminded of this body; everything else revolves around my own safety now.

What I love most about being a therapist is how much I learn and grow through working with different people. It's my deepest intention to create a space of equality and diminish any power dynamics. I like to arrive as a human soul first, meeting another human soul and together, through a shared discovery of meaning-making, I am invited into the intersubjective world of another person. It is unbelievable what you will learn and find when you suspend all your preconceived ideas, and judgments, and enter the rich, expansive, and unique terrain of another person.
