With more than 30 years experience providing services, supervising and training others in my field, I bring a rich blend of knowledge and wisdom to my work with clients. I aim to assist those I work with to find solutions, balance and integration in their lives. My work is underpinned by a belief in equality for all, and that we are all on a journey in life, sometimes difficult. 10 Questions with Moira Joyce

    • What led you to choose psychotherapy or counselling as a profession?

    • I am naturally focussed on others and what is going on for them, and am 'hard wired' to help find solutions to life issues.
I see us all facing some kind of suffering or difficulty at times, and this approach that we are all the same, underpins my work.
I also love people and their differences.
    • Which philosophical approaches have influenced your professional/personal development?

    • I was very much influenced by a Jungian psychologist I studied under, so Analytical Psychology affected my early career. Then I was affected by Systems theory and Narrative Theory in a big way, so I took a much bigger wider perspective on what affects us, as well as my early study of the intra-psychic.
Lastly, Buddhist studies of meditation and Mindfulness and the interconnectedness of us all has profoundly opened up my work and compassion. Add the gentle view of humour in all situations to top it off.
    • Which particular aspects of health or the human journey are you interested in?

    • All of it! However, I am very interested in the relationships we chose to be in, or land in.
    • What method/s do you use?

    • Although I have trained in dream work, and body work, It is mainly conversational and cognitive.
I have a multitude of therapeutic skills, but the persons and their situation determines which we use.
    • When do you think the client will start to feel that progress is being made?

    • If it is good 'fit' between myself and clients, then immediately.!
    • How has therapy made you a better person?

    • I am no better than anyone else, but I have been fortunate enough to use some wonderful methods, and meet some wonderful teachers to examine myself and my own actions as fully as possible so far in my life.
    • What do you like most about being a therapist?

    • I am grateful that I have met some wonderful people in my consulting room and learned so much from them
    • Do you ever have 'bad hair' days?

    • Who hasn,t?
