    A conversation with Gregory Egan

    • I have worked since the late 1990's in the welfare sector across a variety of fields such as child protection, disabilities, drug and alcohol, criminal justice, as well as government, not for profit and private sectors. Through these experiences I became more passionate about helping people on an individual basis and now run my own practice. During the Covid pandemic I wanted to create a business that was accessible to people no matter where they lived in Australia. So I created Bright Sky Counselling, where I provide telephone and video services, allowing flexibility for me in my life and also accessibility for my clients.
    • In my years of field experience I have found the more psychosocial, person centred, self reflective, holistic and strength based approaches to social work practice have influenced the way I work in promoting change in individuals.
    • Helping people to heal from the past, find fulfilment in their present lives, and set goals that give them direction and purpose for the future.
    • A range of techniques from therapeutic approaches such as CBT, ACT Therapy, Psychotherapy, DBT
    • This can vary from client to client depending on the current issues impacting on the individual.
    • The journey to becoming a therapist has made me more self reflective and self aware when it comes to life in general and helped me develop a clear vision and goal for my future to live a more holistic and meaningful life.
    • I am passionate about empowering people to make positive changes in their lives.
    • I think everyone has a bad hair day now and again, as life has it's ups and downs and no life is perfect.
    • I believe there is a social disconnection and more people have become more individualistic. The concept of community in a lot of places is gradually disappearing.

As a therapist I prefer to put energy and time into what we can influence and control in the here and now.
