Philosophy & Vision
Hi, I’m Gidon, a PACFA registered counsellor offering trauma informed counselling for adolescents and adults, with particular depth in substance use, grief and loss, and life transitions.
I believe therapy is not about fixing, but about creating a space where you can be heard, understood, and met without judgement. My approach is psychodynamic and relational, grounded in the understanding that many of our present challenges are shaped by past experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns.
I work collaboratively with clients to explore what emerges in the therapeutic space, allowing insight, clarity, and change to develop over time. My vision is to offer a calm, respectful environment where healing can unfold at a pace that feels safe, and where people can reconnect with themselves in a more meaningful and integrated way.
Background
Before entering private practice, I worked extensively in community and clinical settings supporting adolescents and adults experiencing substance use, trauma, grief, and mental health challenges. My work has included frontline counselling roles and program leadership within drug and alcohol treatment services, supporting individuals across a wide range of presentations and stages of recovery.
These experiences have shaped my trauma informed, relational approach, and deepened my understanding of the complexity of emotional pain, addiction, and loss. Alongside private practice, I work as a Program Manager within a drug and alcohol treatment service, remaining closely connected to the realities people face and the importance of compassionate, thoughtful care.
Services
I provide one to one counselling and psychotherapy for adolescents and adults experiencing addiction, grief and loss, trauma, and major life changes. Sessions are 50 minutes in duration and are delivered in person from my private practice in Bondi Junction.
In addition to individual therapy, I also offer 90 minute family mediation sessions. These sessions are designed to support communication, improve understanding, and assist families in navigating conflict, relational breakdown, or challenging transitions in a structured and supportive environment.
My practice operates on Thursdays between 2pm and 7pm, and Saturdays between 12pm and 4pm. All services are delivered within these set practice hours to ensure consistency.
Quality Provision
My practice is grounded in ethical, respectful, client centered care, with a focus on providing a safe and consistent therapeutic environment.
All services are delivered in line with professional ethical guidelines and tailored to individual needs. Individual sessions are 50 minutes and family mediation sessions are 90 minutes, offered within practice hours on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Confidentiality, clear boundaries, and a collaborative approach underpin all services.

A conversation with Gidon Weinstein
-
I struggled to find genuine joy or meaning in my customer service roles, feeling stifled by the conglomerate of industries. Transitioning to human services filled me with confidence and purpose, as I realised my passion for supporting others.
-
I’m deeply influenced by humanistic approaches, particularly the concept of being present in the here and now. This has drawn me toward Gestalt therapy, which emphasises mindfulness and authentic connection.
-
I’m fascinated by mental growth and the pursuit of well-being, helping people unlock their potential, discover resilience, and find balance in their lives.
-
I incorporate CBT, DBT, ACT, person-centred therapy, and motivational interviewing to tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs.
Additionally, when appropriate I incorporate experiential practices to foster deeper self awareness. -
Progress is happening constantly, even if it’s just showing up to therapy. That act alone is transformative. When clients feel progress, it can happen at any time—a sudden realisation or a gradual shift in perspective. It’s deeply personal and unique to their journey.
-
Through therapy, I’ve experienced personal growth and greater self-awareness. Having someone to reflect my thoughts back to me has been grounding and has helped me find clarity, peace, and happiness.
-
The greatest honour is being invited into someone’s story and having the privilege of guiding them through their journey. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and resilience.
-
As a bald person, hair isn’t much of a concern! However, I stay grounded on tough days through routines and by connecting with my family, which keeps me aligned and focused.
-
I believe the struggle to find our genuine, congruent voice is a major challenge. If more people could embrace their authentic selves, grounded in peace and love, the world would be a far better place.

One event that deeply inspires me is the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final in Istanbul, where my favourite football team, Liverpool FC, faced AC Milan. By half-time, Liverpool were down 3-0—a scoreline that almost always means certain defeat. Yet, against all odds, they fought back. With sheer determination and belief, they scored three goals in the second half, forcing a 3-3 draw at full-time. In the penalty shootout, they triumphed, securing one of the most incredible victories in sporting history (for me at least).
This event taught me an important lesson: no matter how insurmountable a challenge might seem, resilience and perseverance can lead to extraordinary outcomes. It’s a reminder that even when we feel beaten and out of options, there’s always a chance to rise again. That match isn’t just a sporting memory for me—it’s a powerful metaphor for hope and the courage to keep pushing forward.
