Please Tell Me Whether Or Not It Is Possible For A Person To Control Who They Are Attracted To.

Question: I'm confused about my feelings towards my best friend. I have a boyfriend but I enjoy the company of my friend (female) more. I've always considered myself to be straight when it comes to sexual preference and to be honest, that's exactly how I want it to be. I've tried not seeing so much of my friend in the hope that the feelings will go away but only find myself missing her. This whole thing is starting to really freak me out. Could someone please tell me whether or not it is possible for a person to control who they are attracted to. And if it is, how?

Answer: Same sex friendships are very important, especially if they are close and nurturing. Enjoying your female friend's company more than that of your boyfriend, doesn't necessarily indicate sexual preference but may be indicative of a lack of compatability or deeper connection with your boyfriend. Without knowing anything about you, it is impossible to say for sure one way or the other but I can tell you that it is not really possible to control our attractions and divert them to where we choose. We can deny them, repress them, sublimate them, live a lie but in the end, we pay a heavy price.
