Philosophy & Vision

I'm a compassionate and creative Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Art Psychotherapist; Jungian and Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed.

With an approach of creative curiosity we'll explore your story to understand outdated and limiting defences and behaviours, to develop conscious alternatives that better suit your current life. Unconscious patterns affect how we think, feel and act, inhibiting our ability to live fully and authentically.

I offer a gentle, supportive, flexible and creative way to explore the deeper layers of your inner world, to move toward meaningful change. I'm a supportive advocate of my clients' strengths & capacities and I work to help realise potential so that clients can live with self-compassion, autonomy & authenticity.

With over 25 years experience, my training continues with studies in Jungian Psychoanalysis, IFS, Grief-Counselling & ongoing Jungian analysis. NDIS & WorkSafe Vic

Background

I am a Psychotherapist, Art Therapist and a Visual Artist. I have a Masters of Arts, Art Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts, Fine Arts. I worked as an exhibiting artist, a freelance photographer and a commercial photographer before journeying into the world of symbolism and psychology. This led me to study Jungian Psychology and Art Therapy. Since 1997 I have worked in hospitals in Psychiatric & Addictions units, Royal Children's Hospital with seriously ill children, with Homelessness, Disability, Neurodivergence & in private practice, while maintaining an arts practice. I continue studies in Jungian Psychology and Internal Family Systems (IFS) and have trained in Grief Counselling and Trauma-Informed therapy. I am a Registered NDIS Provider.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Walk and Talk Therapy, Coaching / Mentoring, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • I provide a safe, supportive and creative environment and approach my therapeutic work with kindness, flexibility, and curiosity. The therapy room is designed for quiet reflection and should you choose to use them, art materials and musical instruments are available for non-verbal exploration, included in the session cost.

My lifetime of creative practice informs my work and the way I think, helping me to draw loose threads together into meaning. Therapy sessions may include talking about the stories of your life, dreamwork, we may use art materials to expand and explore themes or we may explore sensations in the body to gain awareness and understanding.

The therapy is client-led and we work with what you bring into the therapy room.

    A conversation with Claudia Rossi

    • My work as an artist developed into a deep fascination of symbolism which in turn led to my studies in Art Psychotherapy and Jungian Psychology combining my interests in psychology, mythology and symbolism.
    • Carl Jung and Jungian Analytical Psychology has always been my main influence and I continue training in Jungian Psychology.
    • I am naturally drawn to the potential, often unknown and unrealised in people. Sometimes it is like an awakening, often it leads to unknown places. I like the process of trusting the journey and am often reminded of the "leap of faith" that The Fool archetype takes; the first step of a new journey.
    • I use art materials to explore and expand understanding of themes, dream analysis, Internal Family Systems approaches to work with defences and vulnerabilities, explore body sensations to gain information, creative thinking to draw threads of meaning together, dialogue, mindfulness, meditation and guided imagery, symbols and story. I use these methods with flexibility, to respond to the moment to moment needs and preferences of the client.
    • I find that most clients feel seen, heard and cared for in the initial consultation and so progress begins quite quickly.
    • My analysis has mostly been Jungian. It has helped me to grow into my own skin and to loosen my defences so that I can live a more receptive and authentic life. That's what I'm trying to do.
    • Being a therapist is a privilege. I am in awe of my clients who strive to overcome challenges and work to achieve amazing change. This fills me with hope and makes me happy.
    • Errr, yeah!
    • Maintaining hope and preserving "Self". Staying gentle but not passive, receptive but protective, which is a difficult balancing act.
    • I love the film "Another Year" by Mike Leigh. Everyone I know who has watched it thinks it is boring. And it kind of it because it follow the course of domestic life over a year. I love it though because it shows the patterns that people create in their lives and how they play out. And I love the main couple who journey through each season of one year in their garden allotment, simply growing food and loving each other.
