Philosophy & Vision

We each have our own truths. It's not surprising that words are so powerful but they can still take us aback.

I work with people of all ages, from birth, to death.
I am happy to talk with you about the possibility of psychoanalysis, counselling or clinical supervision and how we might go about this.

I acknowledge that I live & practice among the lands, waters and skies of the Wadawurrung people. I pay my respect to their elders past and present and to all First Nations people

Background

My experience has come from my own psychoanalysis and from working closely and carefully with people's words, sometimes very briefly and in other cases, over many years. I undertook my psychoanalysis, training and supervision with the Freudian School of Melbourne, a School of Lacanian Psychoanalysis
I have worked as a Counsellor since 2004 and as a Psychoanalyst since 2009.
I am an accredited supervisor, experienced in supervising those who work remotely, and those in the broader health fields (Psychiatry, General Practice, Nursing). I have a special interest in working with Peer Practitioners and am currently focusing my professional development and research in this area. I am very experienced in working with children and with artists.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychoanalysis, Assessment, Coaching / Mentoring, Clinical Supervision, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • I am most interested to work with those who are outsiders for one reason or another, or who have a sense of not feeling at home. I have experience working with those who work in the health sector, those for whom English is not their first language, with artists and with people who identify as LGBTQ+.

I do a lot of work with adults who were gifted children. I provide supervision to clinicians of all modalities and fields (including non-mental health practitioners and alternative health practitioners) who wish to feel more present in their work, and I also provide supervision to supervisors.

    Quality Provision

Psychoanalysis or counselling, like life, is full of risks, and a person can't be prepared for the unknown and the unexpected turns. This can be part of what makes things interesting.

I am a PACFA accredited Clinical Supervisor and member of Australian Clinical Supervisor Association . I'm a member of the National LGBTQ+ Health Alliance, and the International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis. I participate in a seminar associated with The Freudian School of Melbourne

    A conversation with Trudy Clutterbok

    • Art and literature explore what it is to be a human being and some art works and books explore psychoanalysis in particular. Studying counselling and then psychoanalysis was a logical extension of my interest in these themes and practices.
My work is, among other things, about freedom of expression. More accurately, it's concerned with free-speak, an ever-emergent practice in the present tense, rather than a formal creed or principle.

Some of you may know that my father was part of the violent suppression of the Welsh language. This meant that he and his fellow primary-aged students were hit by their teachers if they were heard speaking Welsh in the attempt to eradicate the Welsh language and culture one child at a time (a language which is now flourishing). I was a child myself when he told me about this, so I've long valued the rights of people to speak their own language, in their own way. This extends to the freedom to speak and write more broadly.

You probably know about PEN International, but let me remind you.
PEN brings into practice the principle of freedom of expression by defending the rights that ensue - they protect, shelter and resettle writers at risk of harm, imprisonment or death. They also conduct research, promote suppressed world literature, provide advice, advocacy and access to legal help and more.

I donate a percentage of each counselling and supervision session fee to them. In this way I feel that I support the individual to speak in the session, and together we support the individual to write (and speak) in the world. I encourage you to connect with their work, here: https://www.pen-international.org/what-we-do
    • Deleuze and Guattari, Ranciere, Certeau, Arendt, and Benjamin.
    • Childhood, Adulthood, Old age (I do not work with adolescents, unless they convince me to work with them because of a special interest, or because I have previously worked with them as children).
      Giftedness/ the talented and exceptional.
    • The psychoanalytic method of free association; practices from art and literature
    • It's best to forget about progress and other expectations which come from somewhere else. Things will begin to move when the person or patient really engages with their own words and thoughts
    • I caught up with myself and I don't get in my own way as often as I once did. I returned to my art practice. I learned about love.
    • The way in which the spoken word becomes as weighty as the written word and the way in which what has been inscribed (written) in or by the unconscious comes to be said
    • I occasionally have good hair days
    • Violence towards one another and the environment
    • Book: Things I Don't Want to Know, Deborah Levy
Film: The Taste of Cherry, Abbas Kiarostami
Song: My Island Home, the Warumpi Band
Art: The Rock Garden, Nek Chand, Chandigarh
