    A conversation with Tom Skotidas

    • Ever since my early 20s, I have wanted to help people become resilient and thrive. I got married young (25 years old), and at that time, due to the cultural pressures I experienced around providing for my family, I chose to ignore my calling, and go down the sales & marketing path.

When COVID took hold, I had plenty of time to reflect on who I was, and who I wanted to be. At that time, I decided to move back into psychotherapy. I have experienced significant meaning and purpose in my life ever since.
    • Many philosophical approaches have influenced me. Two of my key influences:

      - Wittgensteinianism

      - Existentialism
    • I am interested in how psychotherapy can help humans self-actualise and thrive at scale, and in doing so, change the world for the better.
    • My practice offers Single-Session Therapy, Brief Therapy (2-10 sessions), and Longer-Term Therapy (11 - 20 sessions).

I am skilled at integrating evidence-based psychotherapy models that support each of these timeframes.
    • I use evidence-based, brief psychotherapy models. In my experience, my clients begin to feel that they are making cognitive, emotional, and behavioural progress within 2-3 sessions.
    • I no longer judge people. Through my training, I am now always focused on understanding a person's primary, underlying emotions, and the socio-cultural environment pressures they are facing.
    • Living my core values, of relieving suffering in this world, and helping the world thrive, one human being at a time.
    • I do when my hair has grown too long. However I try to avoid that by cutting my hair short every 30 days. Sometimes I miss that train.
    • Lack of awareness of how our cognitive beliefs and primary, underlying emotions influence our behaviour.

I believe that lack of awareness leads to behaviour that damages relationships and creates social strife.
    • Jerry Maguire inspires me. It is one of my all-time favourite movies.
