Philosophy & Vision

Life can be difficult at times and we are stretched beyond our abilities to cope using our usual resources. Having someone who can empathise with our struggle and respond with support which is based on sound psychology, can be like having someone light a candle in a dark room.

Background

Sharon has extensive experience in the corporate EAP sector, supporting clients with workplace, personal and relationship difficulties. In this setting, Sharon utilised a brief, solution-focused approach with a very diverse range of people. Sharon also has several years experience working in the not-for-profit sector where she has treated individuals and couples with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical problems. Finally, Sharon is experienced in working with clients undergoing physical rehabilitation following injury or disability and supporting clients who experience loss, adjustment, and chronic pain.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy
  • I approach my work in a person centred way - listening carefully and intentionally to an individual's story and how life has brought him or her to a particular place where support is needed to cope with a particular issue. The personal attributes that I bring to therapy are my compassion and analytical thinking which, combined with my professional training and skills in CBT, ACT, psychodynamic and Biblical Narrative therapy, enable me to work holistically with clients to meet their goals.

    Quality Provision

Sharon is registered with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency and she is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society. Both these bodies require a high standard of professional qualification, competence and ethical conduct from their members.

    Therapy Approach

Sharon views her clients as the experts of their own lives and uses her professional knowledge and practice of psychology to come alongside clients in order to develop a joint understanding of those parts that interfere with a meaningful, contented life. Sharon has a deep respect for the spiritual components of people's lives and integrates this into the evidence-based approaches she utilises to support her clients to achieve their goals. Apart from her professional training, Sharon draws on her own life experience and attempts to build an authentic, meaningful life to further inform her practice.
