Philosophy & Vision

In my practice, each person is met with attentiveness and respect, grounded in a deep commitment to listening to the uniqueness of their experience. Psychoanalysis, as I practice it, offers a calm and collaborative space where you can speak openly about your pain and difficulties, including experiences that may feel difficult to put into words.

Instead of viewing symptoms and pain as something to quickly fix, we can understand them as meaningful signals from your internal world. By taking time to listen and reflect together, treatment can help uncover what lies beneath emotional suffering, allowing new understanding and possibilities for change to unfold.

Background

Prior to working full-time in private practice, I worked for over a decade across diverse clinical settings, including acute adult mental health services, community mental health programs, drug and alcohol services, LGBTIQA+ health support programs, sexual assault services, and SASH at the Royal Children’s Hospital. I also have extensive experience supporting individuals from LGBTIQ+ communities.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis, Online Video Consultations
  • I specialise in working with adults affected by early life complexities. These may reveal themselves through anxiety disorders, mood fluctuations, emotional instability, obsessive thought patterns, difficulties in cultivating trust and intimacy, and various forms of addiction.

In my work with children and adolescents, I incorporate play, art, and storytelling. These activities serve as a window into the child’s inner world. I also bring experience working with presentations of ADHD, ASD, behavioural difficulties, and related developmental concerns.

    Therapy Approach

The psychoanalytic method, ‘the talking cure’, addresses problems of life through speaking. Psychoanalysis differs from manualised therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Whilst these modalities can teach skills that aim to correct thoughts or behaviours, symptoms and mental health difficulties are seen as mistakes to be avoided. In psychoanalysis, symptoms and difficulties are understood as bearers of truth and as openings toward the possibility of change.

The work begins with preliminary sessions of speaking together about your concerns and difficulties.Over the course of treatment, you can develop a deeper understanding of life-long patterns of thinking and feeling and how these are defined and regulated by unconscious patterns
