Philosophy & Vision

I love my profession. Knowing that I can be of help to people when they need it, is an absolute privilege and I cherish my clients, their stories and that they chose me to be the one to support them on their journey.

I believe that therapy and the therapeutic relationship can make a positive impact in the lives of individuals and couples seeking support and guidance. I am committed to helping my clients navigate challenging times in their relationships. My approach is holistic and inclusive.

Background

After 3 decades of educating, it was obvious to me that education was not my end game. I had an “aha” moment whilst watching the movie ”Hope Springs”. seeing Meryl Streep and her co actor, husband in couples counselling, inspired a spark in me telling me that I wanted to be Steve Carell in his role as the therapist. I immediately enrolled at university, got my Masters and here I am.

Services

  • Counselling, Couples Therapy, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • Whilst I have both individual clients and couples, I specialise in relationships, mainly using the Gottman method.

The primary goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to:
    - Disarm conflicting verbal communication: Helping couples manage and resolve conflicts in a healthy, constructive manner.
    - Increase intimacy, respect, and affection: Enhancing emotional and physical connection between partners.
    - Remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy: Addressing issues that hinder relationship growth and satisfaction.
    - Create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding: Fostering deeper emotional understanding and empathy within the relationship.

    Quality Provision

Largely inspired by the Gottman method, I strive to understand my client's needs, communication styles, and provide guidance to strengthen your bond.
Here are some ways I support couples and individuals with relationship concerns:
    Effective Communication
    Conflict Resolution Skills
    Building Trust
    Quality Time and Connection
    Regular Check-ins

    Therapy Approach

I encourage open and honest communication between partners: active listening skills and help them express their thoughts and feelings in a respectful manner.

I teach techniques for resolving conflicts constructively, such as using "I" statements, finding common ground, and seeking compromise. Taking a 20 minute break when things get heated is an essential tool.

I assist couples in building and maintaining trust in their relationship: being reliable, honest, and supportive of each other. I help them work through trust issues, such as infidelity or breaches of confidence.

I encourage couples to spend quality time together and nurture their emotional connection. I urge regular guided check-ins to assess the health of their relationship.

    A conversation with Naomi Rubinstein

    • After 3 decades of educating, it was obvious to me that education was not my end game.
I had an “aha” moment whilst watching the movie ”Hope Springs”, seeing Meryl Streep and her co actor in couples counselling, It was a visceral pang inside telling me that I wanted to be Steve Carell in his role as the therapist. I immediately enrolled at university, got my Masters and here I am.
I am also interested in my individual clients' holistic wellbeing. It is a privilege to be let into my client's lives with their unique and fascinating stories and feelings and it is my utmost pleasure to help them help themselves as much as I possibly can.
    • Through her work, Naomi addresses a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety, communication, LGBTQI+ related concerns, family dynamics, parenting challenges, grief, loss, and general relationship difficulties. Her ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, ages, and stages in life underscores her adaptability and inclusivity as a therapist.

    • As an experienced marriage and family therapist, it is my honour to assist you in exploring your core issues and moving toward a healthy, fulfilling life. Utilising a variety of approaches including Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method, I will work with you to create a treatment plan that is customised to meet your unique circumstances.
    • It's important to remember that therapy is a collaborative process, and you are an active participant. The work done between sessions is as important as the sessions themselves.
Therapy is like everything else in life, the more attention we give to the relationships we want to nurture , the more we will get out of them, including ourselves.

If you want a different result, change what you do.

Progress is in your hands, in your mind and ultimately in the time and effort you dedicate to what it is you're trying to achieve.
