Philosophy & Vision

Are you looking for a safe place to explore what's not working in your life, outside of the roles you play or the influence of family and friends? I offer a non-judgemental, nurturing space where you can learn to reconnect with your real self and find the right way forward. You may be struggling with tension, anxiety, panic, anger or strong reactions in your relationships. Or perhaps you are numb, disconnected or retreating from others. I specialise in family issues, parenting & trauma recovery.

Background

I came to therapeutic counselling and advocacy work after first working as a social researcher in Sydney and Glasgow, Scotland. My consultative work in the area of gender-based violence and its impacts on children and young people, together with my personal experience of supporting a close friend who was dealing with the aftermath of abuse in both her marriage and childhood, led me to re-train as a Counsellor with the aim of making a bigger difference in people's real life situations.

I have worked with adults, children and families in the areas of domestic abuse advocacy, general counselling and therapy, childhood trauma counselling, parent counselling and family therapy.

    Therapy Approach

I work in an integrative way, combining my core training in person-centred and experiential therapies with other approaches that are relevant to your specific needs. These may include attachment theory, family systems theory, emotion focused therapy, empathic anger management, creative arts, parts work and somatic or body-based approaches to processing difficult experiences, emotional regulation and trauma recovery. So we may find physical ways to soothe & regulate your nervous system. Or explore your bodily and 'right brain' responses to a problem or situation (an approach known as Focusing). This can uncover the unique intricacy of your thoughts, emotions, beliefs and parts of self, bringing to light your needs and possible steps forward.
