Background

My path to becoming a counsellor began with my own lived experience with mental health. Navigating those personal challenges inspired me to study counselling, and it gave me a deep, genuine understanding of how vital it is to have a safe space when things feel heavy. I know firsthand what it takes to heal, and that personal insight shapes the warmth, empathy, and deep care I bring to every session. Before starting my telehealth practice, I spent years working within various community organisations and mental health settings. These roles allowed me to walk alongside a truly diverse range of people, supporting them through some of their most vulnerable moments.

    A conversation with Luke Samios

    • My decision to choose counselling as a profession comes entirely from my own lived experience with mental health. Navigating my own personal challenges was a profound turning point in my life. It was through receiving counselling myself that I found the support, tools, and safe environment I needed to truly heal and find my footing again in recovery.Experiencing firsthand how life-changing therapy can be sparked a deep passion within me. I realized that I wanted to use my journey to pay it forward—taking the empathy, insight, and genuine understanding I gained and offering that same safe, compassionate lifeline to others navigating their own dark or overwhelming chapters.
    • Progress looks different for everyone, and it is important to remember that meaningful, lasting change takes time. Healing is rarely a straight line, but from our very first session, we will pay close attention to the small victories and steady progress that take place along the way. Whether that is a slight shift in your perspective, a new coping tool that works, or simply feeling a bit lighter after a heavy week, every step forward matters. It is also worth recognizing that just reaching out and speaking to someone is already an important, courageous first step in making progress. By carving out a safe space for yourself, you have already begun the work of recovery, and we will celebrate and build upon that momentum together at a pace that feels completely secure for you.
    • Therapy has fundamentally reshaped my life by helping me find deep meaning and purpose within the mental health challenges I experienced when I was younger. Instead of seeing those difficult chapters as just painful obstacles, therapy allowed me to reframe them into a powerful foundation for my life's work.It enabled me to become much more self-aware and reflective, completely transforming how I view myself. When I was growing up, my sensitivity and deep empathy were often perceived as weaknesses, but therapy helped me realize that they are actually my greatest strengths—the very tools that now allow me to connect with others authentically and hold a safe, deeply compassionate space for your own healing.
    • What I like most about being a therapist is the profound privilege of walking alongside my clients, who inspire me every single day with their resilience. It is incredibly moving to witness people facing down major life obstacles, trauma, and heavy mental health challenges, refusing to give up on themselves.Being able to play even a small part in their recovery journey is deeply fulfilling. There is nothing quite like helping someone recognize the immense inner power they already hold, and getting to watch them shift their mindset from survival into true self-actualisation.
