All Relationship Matters

Mobile 0400 999 918

As humans we are biologically hard-wired to form strong, close connections. Good relationships keep our brain at high function, reduce stress even physical pain. On an emotional level, we feel safe, secure when we know someone has our back or when the chips are down. But relationships can sometimes be challenging. Past experiences may affect our natural desire to form close bonds. Emotional and psychological pain is real but can heal within a therapeutic space of counselling or psychotherapy.

    10 Questions with Kim Bailey

    • What led you to choose psychotherapy or counselling as a profession?

    • It chose me. No, just kidding. But for the books, I was at a crossroad in my life and needed, yes needed to find a vocation that was meaningful and one that is also sense making. 10 years down the track, I am glad. It is both meaningful and sense making.
    • Which philosophical approaches have influenced your professional/personal development?

    • Systemic, humanistic, experiential and developmental (attachment).
    • Which particular aspects of health or the human journey are you interested in?

    • Atatchment based therapies, emotions and neuroscience
    • What method/s do you use?

    • I use the therapeutic relationship first and foremost. Tracking the emotion in sessions, tying back to attachment and developmental trajectory, and staying present where the client is 'at', helping make sense of the stuck points or pain. There is always a sense of where the client is at. With permission from the client we explore the possibilities of hope and hoping.
    • When do you think the client will start to feel that progress is being made?

    • When the bond/therapuetic relationship is intentionally talked about in the room.
    • How has therapy made you a better person?

    • Made me more accepting of being human with all its frailties.
    • What do you like most about being a therapist?

    • Clients let me into their inner world, sometimes unexplored even to them and there is always, always beauty, kindness and love.
    • Do you ever have 'bad hair' days?

    • All the time. I have straight Asian hair and unbeknown to non Asians they are a nightmare to keep looking tidy!
    • What do you think is the most significant problem we face, in the world today?

    • Loneliness, isolation and that many think that's just life in modern day
    • Can you share the name of a book, film, song, event or work of art that inspires you?

    • Book - Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart by Gordon Livingston MD, Irvin Yalom's Love's Executioner, To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Film - Manchester By The Sea (Recent), The Green Mile, Finding Nemo
Art - Michael Leunig inspires me, architecture in Europe, the streets of Paris & Prague.
Song - Vienna - Billy Joel, Nina Simone - Wild Is The Wind, Be Thou My Vision - Van Morrison.

    Psychotherapist, Family Therapist

Hi there. I feel privileged to have walked with many clients on their therapeutic journey. In that way, I can attest, "it is within relationships we are hurt and within relationships we heal". This is not a sentiment. Neuroscience has since proven sitting with an attuned therapist activates the brain's mirror neurons and as we sit together, sharing what is usually kept internal/private, the 'stuck' parts of us begin to shift. Give me a call if you would like to see if we can walk together. ...
