Philosophy & Vision

Using a mindfulness, person centred approach to my counselling, I passionately support people to be fully embodied in this world, whilst also connecting to the mystery and sacredness of all life. My mission is to assist others to cultivate sacred spaces within their self and around them so that they may live a full and joyful life.

Background

Kerstin began her journey as a Physiotherapist in 1986 in her birth country of Germany. Following her deep interest in the union of body, mind and soul, she undertook further studies in a variety of modalities, with one of her most studied subjects being Biodynamic Craniosacral Balancing. Her Diploma in early childhood education gave her great insight into developmental growth. Raising her older son and supporting him through early intervention for Autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, gave her a deeper understanding of neurological diversity.

    A conversation with Kerstin Buccoliero

    • Being born legally blind and only learning to see at the age of 5, had me set off to a diverse start. Back in the 70s bullying was very common which led to a lot of trauma. Additionally, I developed food allergies which led to a near-death experience at the age of 13. For a long time I lived dissociated from my body. My recovery followed the path of the wounded healer, which began in my years working as a physiotherapist. To fully return to my body I used bodywork therapies and expressive therapies such as dance therapy. Raising my neurological diverse sons ended in my Diploma in early childhood education. During this time, I learned a lot about intergenerational Trauma. I realised that professionally I reached the limit of my qualifications with my bodywork and decided to become a counsellor. I now live a soulful, joyful family life, and I know healing is possible.
    • Practicing Buddhist meditation and Yoga for a long time, I tend to follow some of the adjacent philosophies. For many years I also explored shamanism as I found a great understanding of my near-death experience within the spiritual beliefs of the North American First Nations tradition. As such I love ACT and mindfulness-based therapies as I find them supportive of people of all kinds of philosophies, religions and spiritual beliefs.
    • Fully accepting our abilities and becoming the best possible version of ourselves. As much as a diagnosis can bring light and understanding about one self, such as the diagnosis of my older son with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, when it comes to living one's full potential I prefer the term 'neurological diverse' as this is what in many ways we all are: diverse people with common needs, including the need to love and be loved, to express and contribute to society in ways that are meaningful for each individual.
    • Mindfulness techniques such as ACT. My approach is person centred, holistic and integrative.
    • This is highly dependent on the client's reason for seeking counselling, very generalised 4-6 sessions can bring about a shift towards healing.
    • Overcoming poor self-esteem as well as fully returning to my body. Both allowed me to live the life I always dreamed of having: A functioning and loving family/ still having fun exploring new things such as becoming an extra in film and advertisement, playing music and simply feeling alive and supporting others to feel alive too.
    • I truly enjoy being present with other people and supporting others to settle into their bodies, hearts and lives. It is so precious witnessing all those shifts and realisations. At the same time there is always learning and deeper understanindg for me too.
    • Certainly, or those days where I prefer to pull the blanket over my head and stay in bed, rather than get up, and walk the dog in the rain...again. I think it is unhealthy to always want to be joyful and happy, life has other days as well (not every day can be the best day of my life). It's good to allow and make space for unpleasant experiences too, which inevitably arrive at everyone's door from time to time …
    • I believe that being too individualised, and fixated on outcomes, rather than living in the here and now, is the root cause for the negative impacts on the planet and our society. In short the I, me, mine and always wanting to move on to more, better, bigger etc.
