Philosophy & Vision

I provide kind and compassionate trauma-informed, strengths-based, person-centred care that aims to empower individuals. I understand that each individual's journey is unique and requires a tailored approach. I offer counselling and therapeutic support to young people, individuals and couples.

My approach involves creating a safe and nurturing environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring their thoughts and emotions. I value connection and authenticity, and recognise that building trust is essential for meaningful therapeutic progress.

I have a particular interest and experience in providing evidence-based therapeutic support to women who have experienced childhood or adult trauma, have complex mental health issues, or substance dependency. I also have specific experience supporting Australian Defence Force members, veterans and their families.

Background

Prior to starting private practice, I worked in mental health care at senior levels in both not-for-profit and government agencies.

I worked in a clinical leadership role for a gender-specific service for women impacted by trauma, domestic, family and sexual violence, mental health issues and substance dependency. I supported women with complex issues to create better life outcomes and to live with agency, dignity, safety and respect.

Prior to this I worked as a Counsellor for several years for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide where I provided therapeutic support to current serving members, veterans and their families. I supported participants in private sessions and witnesses giving evidence at public hearings.

    Therapy Approach

I work with individuals who may be struggling with a variety of complex issues. My approach integrates principles of mindfulness into all therapeutic practices. Individuals are encouraged to cultivate self-awareness and present-moment awareness which can help to navigate thoughts and feelings more effectively. This integration not only enhances emotional regulation but also promotes resilience, enabling you to develop healthier coping strategies and strengthen your overall well-being.

During your initial sessions we will explore what brought you to counselling and collaboratively determine the most appropriate way forward, developing a tailored therapeutic plan for your individual needs and concerns.
