    10 Questions with Jocelyn Brewer

    • What led you to choose psychotherapy or counselling as a profession?

    • I was teaching high school and the opportunity to retrain as a School Counsellor came up and I grabbed it. It was an opportunity to level-up on 'making a difference' in the lives of young people and their families.
    • Which particular aspects of health or the human journey are you interested in?

    • The adolescent period and emerging adulthood, I enjoy working with young people who are grappling with a whole range of issues both personal and planetary!
    • What method/s do you use?

    • I blend CBT with ACT and apply a range of approaches that best suit the client.
    • How has therapy made you a better person?

    • I enjoy the opportunity to attend therapy myself and reflect on my own growth, struggles and times of 'stuckness'. I find it's so valuable to have another person's perspective to help me check my own blindspots.
    • What do you like most about being a therapist?

    • The absolute privilege of my client's trust and willingness to work on the 'big stuff' in their lives.
    • Do you ever have 'bad hair' days?

    • Never! I just know when to wear a beanie! :)
    • What do you think is the most significant problem we face, in the world today?

    • Losing our ability to connect and show compassion for others. Not necessarily because of the way technology has colonised our lives but certainly, this might have accelerated it.
    • Can you share the name of a book, film, song, event or work of art that inspires you?

    • My favourite film of all time is Picnic At Hanging Rock. Though I am a sucker for Frozen II (which is far better than the first one!)
