Philosophy & Vision

Hi there!

I'm Jack, and I currently work as a counsellor, providing therapeutic support for men and women from a range of backgrounds and issues. I have completed my master's in counselling from the University of Canberra, and I am an accredited counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association. I've worked as a therapist for the past three years, honing a practice that includes aspects of solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and integrated mindfulness practice. I aim to work with clients in discovering what needs to change in their lives, utilising existing strengths and values to articulate a better future and begin moving towards it.

Some of my values include curiosity, openness, honesty, creating a space for change, and passion for this type of work! In my opinion, therapy is one of the deepest and most honest forms of conversation that someone can have.

Background

I have worked in a number of roles as a counsellor, including:

-a therapeutic service for adults suffering with addiction, as well as co-occuring issues like anxiety, depression, shame, and other aspects
-a men's mental health organisation specialising in relationship breakdown, emotional dysregulation, workplace issues, and other men's issues
-a role as a Lifeline crisis support operator

More recently, I began working as a lecturer on the subject of counselling, which has complimented my practical work with a deeper understanding of the theory behind therapy. I utilise this knowledge and understanding in my current private practice work.

    Therapy Approach

I offer both solution-focused therapy (SFT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in my work, as well as some mindfulness based therapy.

Solution-focused therapy identifies your strengths and resources, fostering positive change and proactive problem-solving.

Acceptance and commitment therapy encourages you to embrace acceptance, mindfulness, and valued actions, leading to a more meaningful and purposeful life. Mindfulness can be utilised to your advantage when feeling stuck or lost in thought, encouraging a different way of encountering difficulties.

Each of these therapies can be utilised to work on issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction, separation, grief and loss, and other issues.
