Philosophy & Vision

I am a Counselling Psychologist, Medical & Traditional Herbalist. I am passionate about the creation of resilience across individuals, families and communities through Integrative Medicine and collaborative Health Care Practice.

It is my vision to work towards the larger and more challenging goal of reducing the prevalence of Mental Health in Australia, particularly Psychological Trauma, and the corresponding suffering associated with a lack of widespread accessto effective treatment.

I have a wide range of therapeutic skills, knowledge and experience to offer with diverse academic and professional training. I hold Master Degrees in Psychoanalysis, Nursing Practice and Medical Herbalism.

Background

Psychologists are employed in many settings but are most known for providing counselling. I have worked for Eastern Health in their Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service providing Counselling to Individuals, Family and Friends dealing with or trying to support someone dealing with Drug or Alcohol Dependence.

I have lectured at Monash University teaching counselling to post graduate students and provided supervision to Provisional Psychologists. I am also a PsyBA approved Supervisor for Counselling Registrars and Provisional Psychologists completing their training via Higher Degree and Supervision pathways.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy, Family Therapy, Psychoanalysis, Coaching / Mentoring, Clinical Supervision, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • Upwey Psychology specializes in the treatment of Simple and Complex Psychological Trauma using a combination of cognitive, behavioral and experiential therapeutic interventions. Our approach engages the self organizing tendency of the body mind system to release trauma from being held in memory similar to the way in which a sail boat engages the wind to move. It is not uncommon for people to be unable to locate the pain associated with the trauma when treatment is complete.

    Quality Provision

Upwey Psychology is committed to providing effective treatment with the lightest of touches. It is our goal is to provide the highest quality of treatment in the simplest and least intrusive way. We recognize that therapeutic outcomes emerge partly from the collaboration and developing connection between the seeker and the provider of therapy. We are therefore committed to ongoing personal and professional growth towards wholeness and authentic experience.

    Therapy Approach

Counselling Psychology and Integrative Medicine is about the process of change and how people make changes in their lives. We see Individuals as perpetually involved in a process of ongoing growth and evolution throughout their lives. Distress occurs when this process becomes stalled or blocked. We see distress as part and parcel of the challenges of modern living and not a sign of failure. We see the individual as being a source of untapped potential. We believe in the pursuit of Authenticity.
