Philosophy & Vision

I am a qualified Gestalt and Somatic psychotherapist, as well as a clinical supervisor. I am specialising in working with people who have experienced early childhood developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational challenges. Using a blend of modalities, I tap into personal awareness, freedom, and self-direction.

My attention is focused on an intuitive, creative, and spontaneous process that centres on what is happening in the present moment between me and the client. Working somatically, I focus on the connection between the MIND and BODY to address mental and emotional health issues, especially trauma.

Inner Child work is one of my key passions, and it plays a significant role in shaping my therapeutic approach. My focus on trauma is addressing the root causes rather than just the symptoms.

  • Growing Heart was established after my great understanding of the importance of feelings in creating nurturing and supportive connections with others. The notion of being in a supportive and fully accepting relationship enables people to thrive and blossom.

My service focuses on removing limiting beliefs to foster healthy emotional relationships, first with yourself, and then with others. The goal of the therapy is to heighten one’s awareness in order to provide a choice in doing something differently.

In Growing Heart therapy, you will be able to identify and explore your painful feelings, understand your individual needs, name and shift your general blocks and experience overall positive changes in the body, mind, and spirit.

    Therapy Approach

Gestalt Therapy is a holistic, intuitive, creative, and spontaneous approach that focuses on the present moment interactions between the therapist and the client. The goal is to enhance the client's AWARENESS. Through Gestalt therapy, you learn to uncover feelings that may have been suppressed or hidden by other emotions and to accept and trust your feelings. Ultimately, Gestalt Therapy helps people gain a better understanding of how their emotional and physical needs are connected.

Somatic Therapy is a therapy that focuses on the connection between the MIND and BODY to address mental and emotional health issues, especially trauma. The therapist uses body-centred techniques to help clients become aware of their bodily sensations, release tension and stress, and process emotions that are stuck in the body.

    A conversation with Gregory Poll

    • The Gestalt philosophy and principles that informed me on how to be a better human being. I was invited to find out for myself how I respond/react to different situations and what is like to be Me....Becoming a practitioner was a by-product of my excitement around my change and growth.
    • Buddhism... greatly influences me, and I regularly practise Vipassana meditation that helps me to stay present and mindful.

Gestalt philosophy of AWARENESS... of what you are doing and how you are doing it. It is through this awareness that CHANGE can occur.

Paradoxical Theory of Change... I meet and understand my clients where they are, rather than to move them in any particular direction. I believe that fundamental change can occur when there is a complete acceptance of my client’s whole personhood.

Martin Buber's philosophy of Dialogue... "I-Thou" relationship where the relationship is direct, genuine, mutual, present and open.

My Philosophy... "It is not essential what happened to us in the PAST; what matters most is how we make sense of it NOW."
    • I am particularly interested in early childhood developmental trauma and how those processes have shaped and conditioned my clients' functioning in the present moment. By exploring those aspects, we both discover destructive patterns and triggers that hold my clients back from creating healthy relationships, both with themselves and others.
    • In my practice, I use Gestalt phenomenological inquiries and creative experiments to raise clients' awareness. Somatic experiencing to help my clients become aware of their bodily sensations, release tension and stress and build emotional resilience. Some parts of hypnotherapy to allow people to access deeper levels of their consciousness. Sometimes somatic touch to help people to engage more with their emotional experience and solidify their needs and boundaries.
    • My clients experience change and progress when they take full responsibility for their experiences. New choices emerge through awareness, but action must then be taken. Supporting my clients and helping them to build strong resources, I encourage them to take responsibility for their actions. Only when they feel ready and well supported...internally and externally.
    • It continues to make me a better human being….
    • "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed…"

I am continually growing and transforming alongside my clients.
    • Quite often, it is a vital part of my life that allows me to enjoy and appreciate my good days even more.
    • From my professional perspective, it is emotional disconnection... we live in the Dark Age of emotional Illiteracy and suppression that causes humans' inability to connect with themselves and so others. Therefore, people struggle enormously with a lack of belonging, loneliness, depression or a general lack of sense of Self.
