Philosophy & Vision

I am an experienced therapist, skilled in working relationally, creatively and with careful regard for emotional safety as we consider your story, and your unique strengths and challenges.

My private practice is now in its ninth year and has been the most stimulating, creative and enlivening work context that I have experienced. It is enormously rewarding to be able to offer space for others to engage in meaningful personal exploration, and to find pathways to bring goals to fruition.

Background

My therapeutic experience has been broad. I worked within the welfare sector providing therapy to vulnerable children and families for several years, developing understanding of family and social systems and the impact of trauma and attachment disruption. Subsequently I provided group and individual therapy within a private psychiatric setting, utilising a range of approaches to assist my clients to manage distressing symptoms as well as to develop insight regarding relational patterns and the impact of their past experiences. Across roles and contexts, I have contributed to supervision of Provisional Psychologists in their final stages of training, and I have taught trainee psychologists and counsellors within tertiary education.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Group Therapy, Clinical Supervision
  • Length of individual therapy can range from a few sessions to a longer span of time, depending on what you as a client identify as your needs and goals. This is something that we can discuss and shape together.

    Quality Provision

My personal and professional development is ever-evolving. I attend regular supervision where I reflect in depth on my clinical work and skill elaboration. Since registering as a psychologist in 2005, I have been extensively involved in ongoing therapeutic training focussed on trauma and early attachment disturbance, and the impact of these experiences on later relationships and mental health. I have also engaged substantially in experiential and creative therapy training.

    Therapy Approach

My approach is primarily relational, respecting the impact of early formative relationships and considering the ways patterns continue into the present. I am committed to empowering my clients to flexibly make change through greater understanding of themselves and their relationships. Therapy involves receiving opportunities to experience and practice new ways of being. Creativity runs through my therapeutic work. From my perspective, therapy is a time to freely and imaginatively explore emotions, thoughts, actions, values and personal meaning, while receiving empathy and care.
