Philosophy & Vision

Within a respectful and supportive framework I work in partnership with you as an individual or as a couple. I work professionally to assist clients make sense of painful, problematic and frequently recurring patterns of personal difficulty in order to be more authentic with self and others. With solid clinical training, diverse work and life experiences, my areas of specialisation include: relationships and intimacy. sexuality and sexual identity, sexual abuse, trauma, and life transitions.

Background

Born in England, I married and divorced twice and raised children. I worked for twenty years at the most senior levels of Australian companies, assisting in the selection of their CEO's and direct reports. Seven years ago I transitioned from the boardrooms to the bedrooms of Australia, and qualified with a Masters in Counselling, specializing in sex therapy.

I have studied with America's leading sex therapist and been fortunate in having Gina Ogden as a supervisor. I also studied extensively with The Couples Institute, have carried out advanced level Kinergetics, Thought Field Therapy and a Diploma in Hypnotherapy. My theory and practical knowledge were utilised fully when writing my book The Grown-Ups Guide to Dating & Mating.

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy, Coaching / Mentoring, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • As a client when you initially come to talk I listen, listen. listen. It is so important for you to be heard, your story told in an uninterrupted manner. Sometimes, if required, I might sensitively question and affirm your reality, in order to gain a deeper understanding of what is behind your issue, and /or despair.
I attempt initially to understand where you are and where you would prefer to be in your relationships. We determine a course of action together. Most clients say they feel relief after the first session. Getting concerns, particularly sexual, out in the open with a qualified professional and finding out you are not alone in what your experiencing is a huge relief and brings a hope that things can be different.

    Therapy Approach

I have an holistic approach. After decades of experiential and academic learning, I utilise the psychodynamic modality. I initially trained in CBT that my BA in Psychology taught me, and where required EMDR, Kinergetics, Thought Field Therapy (Tapping), Hypnosis, Focussing, Gestalt, Ericksonian and other modalities.

I strongly believe therapy is centered around the needs of the client and is not a one size fits all profession.

    A conversation with Christina Taylor

    • Once a victim of incest, it took some years and excellent therapists to see myself as a strong woman, able to be a loving and sexual partner. I believe that all people, young and old, deserve to have intimacy in their lives, and I am a strong advocate in regular healthy sexual pleasures.
As I aged I recognized the wisdom gained through my own journey, the learning's received from wise mentors and the extraordinary teachings I acquired as a student of psychotherapy.
    • Primarily I am a psychodynamic therapist, as instinctively I lean towards addressing the psyche from birth, working through attachment issues, and if present in an individual, appropriately and sensitively working through trauma. I believe that the body stores all memories and as such I have also studied Kinergetics and Hypnosis.
    • Sexual health through to old age.
    • Psychodynamic, gestalt, cbt, mindfulness, thought field therapy, hypnosis, kinergetics.
    • Hopefully after the first meeting.
I would like to think that on meeting and talking to me that clients recognise I am sensitive, non-judgmental and open to exploring their concerns.
    • My own therapy has led me to a more fulfilled life, one with laughter and passion - something I had no concept of in my first decades of being a woman.
    • Seeing others reach their potential as fulfilled beings.
    • I have 3 wigs
    • A lack of empathy and compassion for our fellow beings and the planet.
    • I have a first degree in English Literature so am an avid reader of the classics, however I am currently having an affair with the authors of the sub continent and currently reading V.S.Naipal's The House of Mr Biswas - a beautifully crafted and very funny account of overcoming adversity.
