Philosophy & Vision

Cherie is known for her relaxed and approachable manner, which allows clients new to the clinic to feel comfortable and respected as they engage in their treatment. She understands that the relationship that you share with your therapist, and experience of being heard throughout your sessions, is the most important quality of psychological treatment. This combined with training in the latest models and research brings professional and effective treatment to the table.

Background

Cherie has a long and diverse background in both therapy and program management roles, including working with criminal/justice client groups and organisations, child protection, domestic and family violence, family court assistance and trauma therapy. A conversation with Cherie Dorotich

    • I chose to become a psychologist to help people improve their lives by alleviating emotional, psychological and relational pain.
    • As a wide reader and curious mind - everything has contributed something to who I am today.
    • Learning - every moment when a person becomes slightly more aware than before - those moments change lives.
    • Cherie uses a diverse range of approaches that she has trained in across the years of her career. Different clients respond to different approaches, and such this ability to work eclectically is important.
While EMDR and Schema Therapy are frequently drawn upon, understanding what you require and what is going to suit your needs is foremost in our consideration.
    • This is very dependent upon the issues, the client, the factors occurring in your life. There is no way to answer this question directly. In saying this, it is usually the case that after our initial appointment we will have a clear understanding of what is likely to work for you and this will mean that you will have an idea at that point how much work we have to do with each other. Most clients often find themselves feeling 'relieved' following the very first session due to this clarity.
    • Tolerance - definitely tolerance. The understanding that at the beginning we are all the same, in the middle we all walk with our own stories, and at the end we are all reflectively wise.
    • My profession allows me to make a difference in peoples lives. It is both rewarding and challenging, allowing me to learn more about myself and others.
    • LOL - do I ever not?! Being a not so enthusiastic morning person - most of my work days (that require early rising) become bad hair days. I prefer to just embrace these less important deficits in myself :)
    • The most significant problem in the world today is that it is too fast paced and people can not exist in that.
    • So many as I love to read, love music, and love the Arts.
