Philosophy & Vision

I utilise a range of therapeutic models and techniques to support my clients in achieving empowerment, finding solutions, and achieving recovery. As a counsellor, I work in a person-centred way, which is different from how a psychologist works. While psychologists often follow a medical model and focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or behavioural testing, I believe healing can come from within. The evidence suggests that learning to find the ways within can lead to a longer lasting and a sustainable goal in the healing process.
My role is to walk alongside you, offering gentle guidance and a supportive presence on your path. Together, we can work on your next chapter in life. I am here so you can find trust, support, and a safe space to put the focus back on you. Together, we’ll find the way forward, at your pace, in your way.

Background

I bring a wealth of life experience to my work and understand that everyone’s needs, challenges, and stories are unique. My approach is warm, authentic, and trauma-aware, and I strive to be fully present with you in each session.

I draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit your individual needs, considering your life experiences, relationships, and personal strengths to support your healing and growth.

    A conversation with Ann Edvall

    • I’ve always been drawn to understanding people and what helps us through life’s ups and downs. After more than 15 years working as a manager, I decided to re-train as a counsellor. As a mature practitioner with lived experience, I understand how life can throw unexpected curveballs, and I’m passionate about supporting others through their own challenges.
    • Philosophical influences on my professional development include humanistic and existential perspectives, with their emphasis on authenticity, choice, and the search for meaning. In addition, psychodynamic and attachment-based frameworks inform my understanding of how early relationships and experiences continue to influence present patterns and challenges.
    • Stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationships, self-esteem, life transitions, women's mental health, alcohol and drug dependency, overuse of social media and how to become more aware of the negative impact it can have on your mental health when it is overused.
    • I take an integrative approach, adapting my methods to each client’s needs and responses. I don’t believe a single method works for everyone, each person is unique, and I tailor my approach to what best supports their growth, healing, and understanding.
    • I believe it usually take up to 5-6 sessions until you can start to see a progress. But it can depend on the person and how used to therapy they are.
    • It has taught me so much about myself. Every client teaches me new things and I grow every time I meet new people. I have become more resilient, calm and open minded.
    • Listening to peoples stories and being able to help them find a way forward in their issue they are faced with.
    • Yes of course, who doesn't.
    • I believe social media has had a profound impact on the way we interact with one another. We are slowly losing the ability to truly listen to different perspectives, and our attention spans are becoming shorter. For many people, including myself, it has become increasingly difficult to sit fully in the moment. Scrolling and watching reels can be addictive, while activities that require focus, like reading a book, are becoming harder to sustain.
