Philosophy & Vision
I offer trauma-informed therapy to individuals (12+) couples and families with a passion for empowering people to identify their inner strengths and achieve their goals, whether that includes healing or personal growth. I use evidence based techniques, aligning them with individual needs and preferences.
Client feedback indicates my approachable and professional style helps clients with their emotional responses, then find new ways of regulating emotion and creating a positive shift.
I am focused on connecting with clients by listening and understanding who they are and what they value. In a supportive space, you will understand yourself more thoroughly through self reflection, drawing on your strengths to help you thrive. My educational and collaborative style underpins an eclectic therapeutic approach, so can understand yourself better, connect to your emotions and learn new skills.
Background
My career includes workplace leadership and coaching in telecommunications, aged care, broadcasting and welfare. The eclectic nature of my career allowed me to develop a deep respect for individuals and their stories, which led to further study to qualify as a counsellor.
Prior to private practice I worked with young people (12-25 years) and their families, helping them through life's challenges including generalised or social anxiety and depression, with severity ranging from mild impact on daily functioning to more profound impacts. I enjoy working with neuro-diverse people, always meeting people where they are. Private practice has allowed me the chance to expand the diversity of my clientele with adults and couples.
Services
Online and in-person consultations available for all ages 12 years and above. I offer limited after-hours appointments where required.
Quality Provision
I offer evidence-based trauma informed therapy that is person-centred and goal oriented.
Client safety and stabilisation is my first priority, working to the ethical standards outlined by the Australian Counselling Association.

A conversation with Andy Le Roy

A combination of lived experience and searching for a career that offered more meaning led me to enter counselling. I have always valued personal connection and counselling is a way for me to offer support to others by creating a safe space to explore who they are and what is important to them.
-
Person-centred approaches that turn equity away from "what's wrong with me?" towards instead to "what happened to me?" influence they way I work with others. Focusing on strengths is also important to me, allowing people to draw on individual and cultural influences that shape their identity and world view.
-
The impact of traumatic experiences, the patterns of behaviour this can lead to and how to create meaningful and lasting change.
-
Evidence-based talk therapy and creative practices to encourage connection to the sub conscious and a deeper understanding of self. I also include psychoeducation to help clients understand more about what they are experiencing. Methods are drawn from CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, SFBT, CPT and Schema Therapy.

Progress varies from client to client.
Trauma-informed therapy ensures the pace of therapy meets what the client is ready to explore, focusing on safety and stabilisation as the first priority before processing deeper concerns.
Some clients report feeling progress after 2-3 sessions as a result of learning new skills in therapy, whilst others seeking a shift begin to feel a connection to deeper enquiry after five sessions.
Some clients prefer to pause therapy after a series of 4-6 sessions to integrate what they have discovered and return at a later point to explore new things.
Everyone's journey is different. -
Therapy has allowed me to heal from past traumas, overcome grief and effectively cope with major life changes. On the other side of my healing journey, therapy helps me to continue my own person growth through regular self reflection.
-
I love sitting with people and helping them empower themselves through feeling seen, having their experiences validated and learning ways to overcome difficulties and move forward in life. The magic for me is in the connections I am able to make with the people who enter my therapy space.
-
Of course! As a human being I face the same challenges as anyone else. As a therapist, I am able to put my own concerns aside, which allows me to be present with you at all times in session. Attending regular clinical supervision and therapy helps me to keep an even keel for when it matters most.
-
The art and benefits of human connection are under serious threat in my opinion, with an over-reliance on technology for text-based communication preferenced over face to face or verbal communication. It feels like the world has become insular and siloed, causing us to lose tolerance for and acceptance of ourselves and others.
-
Any film that focuses on human stories. I'm inspired by ABBA's Voyage album, because it demonstrates the human capacity to produce something wonderful at any stage of life, and books written by Indigenous authors, because of their capacity to illustrate the best in human connection, resilience, and how to care for one another.
