Philosophy & Vision

Many of the people I work with sense that something in their life is no longer quite right — even if things appear fine on the surface. There may be a sense of disconnection, stuckness, or deeper questions around direction and meaning.

My work is grounded in person centered and trauma-informed practice, with a strong influence from Jungian and depth oriented psychotherapy.

I tend to work well with people who are reflective, navigating transitions, or seeking a deeper understanding of themselves.

Background

Before training as a therapist, I spent almost two decades working across the arts and education sectors with young people and adults.

My own experience of therapy which started in my late twenties was a turning point, leading me to engage more deeply with my inner world and eventually train as a psychotherapist.

This lived experience continues to inform my respect for the therapeutic process and the courage it takes to engage with it.

    A conversation with Amelia Ducker

    • A series of life experiences, along with a growing curiosity about the inner world led me towards psychotherapy.
My own experience of therapy was a turning point - it gave me a deeper understanding of myself and showed me the value of having a space to explore what sits beneath the surface.
I'm grateful that I followed this path as find this work meaningful, particularly in supporting people to make sense of their experience and develop a more connected relationship with themselves.
    • My work is grounded in humanistic and trauma-informed frameworks, with a strong influence from Jungian and depth-oriented psychotherapy.

This means I’m interested not only in what is happening in the present, but also in the deeper patterns, emotional layers, and unconscious processes that shape a person’s experience.

    • I’m particularly interested in the process of people reconnecting with themselves — especially during times of transition, uncertainty, or change.

This might involve discovering a clearer sense of direction, understanding recurring patterns, or reconnecting with parts of themselves that have been lost, overlooked, or cast aside.
    • I work collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for each client.

Sessions may involve talking through current challenges, exploring emotional responses, and bringing awareness to patterns that may be operating beneath the surface.

Where helpful, I may incorporate approaches such as dreamwork, ACT, or imagery-based exploration — always guided by the client’s needs and preferences.

    • This will look different for each person.

For some, progress may be a growing sense of self-awareness or self-acceptance. For others, it may be the ability to stay with difficult emotions rather than avoid them, and begin to understand them more deeply.

Often, a key sign of progress is when clients begin to relate to themselves in a new way — with more curiosity, clarity, or compassion.
    • Therapy has had a significant impact on my life.

Being in the client position has given me a deeper appreciation for the therapeutic process, and for the courage it takes to engage in it.

This experience continues to shape how I work, and the respect I hold for each person’s process.
    • I value the depth and honesty that can emerge in this work.

I find it meaningful to witness people gradually come into a closer relationship with themselves, and to see the shifts that can occur over time.

I also appreciate that this profession involves ongoing learning and reflection & that there is always more to understand.
    • Yes absolutely :)
    • Many people are navigating a sense of disconnection — from themselves, from others, and from a deeper sense of meaning.

While there are significant challenges in the world, I’m interested in how individuals can remain connected, curious, and engaged in their own lives despite this.

      Supporting that reconnection feels important.

    • Films - I love the film work of Wim Wendes (Wings of Desire, Perfect Days, Paris Texas).
