Philosophy & Vision

I approach our therapy work together with an attitude of respect, sensitivity and understanding. We all come to be who we are and deal with circumstances the way we do for a myriad of reasons. I offer you acceptance and a non-judgmental attitude.

Whilst sometimes our 'old ways' no longer serve us well, the process of making change requires a patient and compassionate therapeutic approach.

Background

I have been working in helping professions since 1984 in a variety of settings, both overseas and in Australia. Over the years I have worked with children, adolescents, young women at risk of homeless, the LGBTI community, people living with HIV, migrant and refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander young people.

My focus and interest have always been working with the impact of childhood trauma. This can manifest in a myriad of ways in our lives, as anxiety, numbness, self-esteem issues, shame, guilt, emotional overwhelm, hyper-vigilance, feeling hijacked by emotions, flashbacks or somatic complaints.

I work from a trauma informed framework and keep up to date with research and professional development in this area.

    Therapy Approach

I am a Somatic Psychotherapist, which allows me to attend to the body as well as the mind. Traumatic experiences affect us at both levels. Having an understanding of this impact and ways of working with that, means I can help you address the impact of trauma in more effective ways.

I see therapy as partnership work. You are the expert in your own life and I bring an understanding of the impact of trauma and skills to help you address it so that together we can find ways for you to feel better in the world and inside yourself.

Your therapy is unique to you as I adapt my work to your needs and what works best for you. I am constantly updating my skills and bringing new ways of working to better meet the needs of my clients.
