Philosophy & Vision

I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative and reflective journey with patients to better understand what may be holding them back, as well as to discover together their underlying resources that can make them more wholesome.

I bring a calm and compassionate presence in my therapeutic work. I meet people with respect and warmth, while also being curious and non-judgmental about what may be going on in my patients’ minds. I hope to support patients in making meaningful change, with the aim to improve their quality of life.

I have a special interest in working with emerging adults (i.e. between the ages of 18 to 30) growing up in immigrant or culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families. I especially appreciate and understand the conflicts and trauma experienced by young Asian immigrant adults growing up in a Western society while negotiating their parents’ heritage from their home country.

Background

Prior to pursuing clinical training in becoming a psychologist, I worked in research as a project manager/study coordinator at The University of Auckland (New Zealand) looking at environmental and lifestyle impacts on infant/children development, especially among families with drug and alcohol background.

Before starting my own private practice, I worked at various government and non-government organizations, residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, as well as group psychology practices.

I also worked in various academic roles such as course coordinator and academic tutor at both The University of Auckland (UoA) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Services

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy, Online Video Consultations
  • I offer a longer initial intake/assessment session for 75 minutes, and subsequent standard therapy sessions for 50 minutes.

I also offer a brief phone call prior to booking the first appointment where you can share a little about your situation, what you are looking for in therapy and hear about how I work.

    Quality Provision

I am a clinical psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. I am engaged in ongoing professional development including participating in formal training courses, workshops, conference and lectures, and am engaged in ongoing and regular professional supervision, both locally and internationally.
