Welcome to Good Therapy Australia
| |
A Resource for Self awareness and Social responsibility Good Therapy Australia is a registered health education charity, dedicated to making good therapy more accessible, enabling Australians to find the best possible support for awakening awareness, creativity and responsibility. We believe our attitudes and actions as individuals foreshadow the health and wellbeing of our communities - locally and globally - and that limiting one's world to one's self has never been a sustainable option. Paradoxically, taking responsibility for one's self is the most profound and effective way of making a positive contribution. |

Departures
| |
Departures is a film about acceptance. It's about corpses too, but in a very gentle way. A young man returns to his home town, wife in tow, to inherit a family home. We discover that his father left when he was young, and the hero harbors a stone in his heart for the perceived abandonment. While looking for work, he stumbles accidentally into the business of casketing, a formal and ritualized Japanese process of dressing and preparing the recently dead for funerals. His mentor guides him, in sequences of compassion, poise, and subtle humor, into an understanding of the worthiness of this strange art even as he struggles to cope with the ostracism by friends and family for being a handler of the dead. For a movie so much about death and the dying, I found this to be very life-affirming. There are multiple stories told in this movie, about acceptance of death and of loss, and acceptance of life and of love. The acting is excellent, and the story is intriguing and cool. I recommend it. - Ross tell us about a film that moved you |

Why feeling sad is no reason not to be happy

 The Uses of Sadness
by Karen Masman Being sad doesn't necessarily mean you're depressed. Discover how much sadness can do for your creativity, your future, your relationships, your work, your dreams. Most of us have bouts of unexplained sadness. Just because we feel sad doesn't mean something is wrong. It may be a time to reassess our goals, to have some down time. It may signal a time of transition, a shift in our identity.
The Uses of Sadness helps us understand the nuances of sadness, and how it differs from depression. Sadness helps us access a deeper part of ourselves. As we then become a little bigger, wiser and more compassionate than we were, our lives are enriched and we in turn enrich the lives of others. Available now from Good Therapy's book shop. Question |
I have long term issues with anxiety and depression. For the last few years I've sought help in the form of therapy, but I can't talk about my issues, I become stricken with panic as thoughts and answers to questions come rushing, and within a few moments a black veil comes over my mind. I can't think through the fog. I've tried writing things down, but my thoughts are convoluted and incomplete. How can I get help if I can't communicate what the issues are? answer |
