bulletWelcome to Good Therapy Australia

self awareness social responsibility

A Resource for Self awareness and Social responsibility
Good Therapy Australia is a registered health education charity, dedicated to making good therapy more accessible, enabling Australians to find the best possible support for awakening awareness, creativity and responsibility. We believe our attitudes and actions as individuals foreshadow the health and wellbeing of our communities - locally and globally - and that limiting one's world to one's self has never been a sustainable option. Paradoxically, taking responsibility for one's self is the most profound and effective way of making a positive contribution.

bulletFind a Therapist

find a therapist Good Therapy provides a place for Australians to learn about therapy, explore what good therapy means for them personally, and make connections with the people in their community who practice therapy. Search Good Therapy's Directory to find mental health professionals in Australia: select Advanced Search options to find therapists who match special criteria, or browse profiles of accredited counsellors, psychotherapists, and registered psychologists in your area. We recommend reading Find a Therapist Search Tips before you begin.

bulletHow to Train Your Dragon

I'm not one for remembering the names of the characters in films (some people do!) I tend to be moved more by story line, the script and cinematography. On all three counts How to Train Your Dragon qualifies as one of the best animation movies ever made. I love the way Hiccup, the main character, preserved his individual integrity, all the while yearning to belong to the family and community into which he was born. I believe it is possible to transcend our cultural mores -in fact, the integrity and future of the human race as a whole relies on everyday people like you and me, tuning in to our deepest and highest truths which, sadly are not always reflected in social norms. Go see this movie. It will most certainly make you laugh and while there's a good chance it will also make you cry, How to Train Your Dragon will hopefully inspire you to notice the next time you are caught up in the ever present temptation to succumb to herd mentality.  tell us about a film that moved you

bulletI had a black dog

Winston Churchill used the phrase Black Dog when referring to the bouts of depression he experienced for much of his life. Since then, it has become a popular expression for a condition that many of us suffer, often in shame and silence.

Artist and writer Matthew Johnstone, a sufferer of depression himself, wrote and illustrated this moving and uplifting insight into what it is like to have a Black Dog as a companion. It shows that strength and support can be found within and around us. Black Dog can be a terrible beast, but with the right steps can be brought to heel.

"There are many different breeds of Black Dog affecting millions of people from all walks of life. The Black Dog is an equal opportunity mongrel."

Stunningly illustrated, totally inspiring, this book is for anyone who has ever had a Black Dog, or knows someone who has. RRP $16.95

bulletQuestion

I have long term issues with anxiety and depression. For the last few years I've sought help in the form of therapy, but I can't talk about my issues, I become stricken with panic as thoughts and answers to questions come rushing, and within a few moments a black veil comes over my mind. I can't think through the fog. I've tried writing things down, but my thoughts are convoluted and incomplete. How can I get help if I can't communicate what the issues are? answer
