    10 Questions with Carolyn Rogers

    • What led you to choose psychotherapy or counselling as a profession?

    • I find people endlessly fascinating and I never tire of listening to their stories. Psychology seemed like a natural extension of Nursing and there are many overlaps between the two professions. I think I have the best job in the world and I feel blessed.
    • Which philosophical approaches have influenced your professional/personal development?

    • I have been trained in all the therapeutic modalities but philosophically the one that really appeals to me the most is ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) which is a mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. I like the emphasis on acceptance, which is something I think we need more of in the world.
    • Which particular aspects of health or the human journey are you interested in?

    • I love how we have the power to improve our physical and mental health by changing what we put in and on our bodies. Food is medicine and food is information for our bodies. Changing our nutrition and our lifestyles can have powerful effects on how we live and how long we live. You just got to believe that and the rest is easy.
    • What method/s do you use?

    • I use CBT and ACT most of the time, though I could describe my style of therapy as being more like a therapeutic conversation. I think the past informs the present but I mostly stay focused in the present because that is where we live. I also love giving my clients the science behind what I am telling them, especially if it is something related to health. They always get homework which often consists of short videos to watch, meditations to listen to, handouts to read or a book recommendation, or maybe a good movie to watch that illustrates a point.
    • When do you think the client will start to feel that progress is being made?

    • Most of my clients report that they feel better after the first session. Actual change takes a bit longer! Being heard and feeling understood is very powerful and very healing.
