“Counselling might be helpful if you: have anxiety; feel tired or teary; haven’t “been yourself” lately; feel overwhelmed; find little to look forward too; aren’t sleeping or have habits you want to change.” Career and life coaching are helpful when you have a specific goal you wish to work on in a practical, solution-focussed setting. The sessions help you to build your strengths, tap your inner resources, gain perspective and see options more clearly. If you have stress, trauma or grief, “talking therapies” often help. For childhood, marital or parenting issues, skills-training, self-parenting and inner-child work can help. For anxiety, addictions and pain management, CBT, Gestalt, and Hypnotherapy help.

I am experienced in relationship counselling, child abuse, incest, grief, depression, self-esteem, addictions and career counselling. As well as working in private practice, I am: a board member, supervisor, volunteer face-to-face counsellor and facilitate the Suicide Bereavement Support Groups at Lifeline; am a supervisor and trainer on the National Domestic Violence line and do regular presentations to corporations on well-being in the workplace. I seek to help you build on your strengths, to tap into your own inner resources or, if you are a couple, to work together to reconnect. The first session is an exploration of why you seek counselling, your current situation, what you want to see change and, most importantly, a rapport/trust-building session. Often the presenting problem is not the underlying issue so ongoing sessions explore whatever you, as the client, “bring into the room” but will always revisit goals outlined in session one
