	Parenting is hard work! My aim is to help parents feel good about their role, to feel competent and valued. I firmly believe that young children need the support of their parents much more than they need the support of a psychologist or counsellor. In my work I try to find out what children need and then help their parents to meet that need themselves as much as possible. I hope to support parents so they can support their children.

I assess children's psychological, social and educational strengths and needs from a Systems perspective, working with the child's family and school where appropriate. I am passionate about working with families who have experienced trauma and/or loss and helping parents to feel good about their role so they can help themselves and their children.
I specialise in perinatal psychology, supporting expectant and new parents, and counselling for pregnancy and perinatal loss.

Experience

Orientation

I am a school teacher and Psychologist with 21 years experience working with children, adolescents and parents. I initially trained as an Instructor for Parent Effectiveness Training Inc. and Teacher Effectiveness Training Inc. and went on to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education and a Masters in Educational and Developmental Psychology. My work has included teaching and counselling in schools, assessing children under five and counselling their parents for DHS.

Assessment uses standardised psychometric tests and diagnostic interviews. Follow-up therapy or intervention draws on a variety of approaches as I choose the modality to fit the unique needs of each client. I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, Play Therapy, Expressive Therapies, "Talk Therapy" and Parent Education.
I use sandplay, painting, drawing, role-plays, worksheets, games, stories (fairy tales, movies), and picture books.

Fees

Payment Options

$170.00 for the initial consultation and $155.00 per session thereafter (50 minute sessions).
$130.00 per session for concession card holders. ($135 for initial consult)

Medicare rebate with GP or Peadiatrician referral ($83.20 per session).
