Tranquil Waters Australia
Tranquil Waters Australia -
by Ian Carlson

Description

Australia is the driest inhabited continent in the world. This unique rugged country is often seen as a vast wasteland of red earth, and much of it is. However, Australian photographer Ian Carlson has captured the more subtle and lush beauty to be found in Tranquil Waters of Australia.

Tranquil Waters Australia combines landscape images of a timeless Australia with the elegant beauty of Chinese calligraphy.

Tranquil Waters Australia provides an experience of the precious and diverse Australian waterways with the reflective thoughts of eastern poetry and philosophy. Whether it's the sense of serenity, peacefulness and rare veauty found in rippling creeks, quiet bays and calm estuaries, or equally a feeling of safety ashore as the ocean surges in all its force, or rivers plummet wildly over waterfalls, the story of this natural life force is conveyed through an ancient and beautiful textual imagery.

Compiled over five years, Tranquil Waters Australia is the first in a series of high quality photography books that weave the arts of photography and calligraphy. The theme of this series draws on the natural wonders of Australia and the five elements of Chinese culture - water, earth, trees, metal and fire.

About the Author

Ian Carlson is renowned for capturing spectacular colours in his stunning landscape photographs and has become one of Australia's most exciting contemporary landscape photographers. The inspiration for this book derives, in part, from Ian's Chinese heritage. He often compares his work to that of Chinese calligraphers, seeking to convey the simplicity, peacefulness and beauty in the wilderness surrounding him.
