Learning for Sustainable Living
Learning for Sustainable Living -
Psychology of Ecological Transformation
by Werner Sattman-Frese & Stuart Hill

Description

This book, previously known under the title 'Psychology of Ecological Crises and Eco-Self Transformation', addresses the critical observation of ecopsychologists that our current approaches to environmental change will benefit from a deep understanding of the complex emotional, psychological and sociocultural issues that underpin human behaviour.

The necessary shift from the current ego-self consciousness to an eco-self consciousness may be achieved by conceptualising ecological crises from behaviourist, cognitive, postmodern, depth psychological, holistic, psychosomatic, and transpersonal perspectives.

The approach to personal and planetary healing described here is based on an extended set of emotional, psychosocial, and environmental sustainability indicators and is informed by the theory and practice of social ecology, learning ecology, and transformative education. It focuses on practices that develop one’s transpersonal self – as a wise, responsible, able and paradoxical being.

About the Author

Werner Sattmann-Frese studied conventional medicine and bodyoriented psychotherapy from 1977 until 1984. Since then, he has worked as a psychotherapist mainly in private practice. Since 1992 he has also been supervising psychotherapists and training students in psychotherapy, psychosomatic medicine, and holistic bodywork. He attained a PhD degree in Social Ecology through a research project on the emotional and psychosocial background of ecological crises and the relationships between personal, social, and environmental sustainability. Werner is currently completing an online learning and workshop version of a professional development programme for professionals working in the fields of community development, sustainability education, public health, and organisational change. Information on this programme is available at www.slse.edu.au
