Know Thyself
Know Thyself -
The Stress Release Program
by Dr Craig Hassed

Description

Using his experience as a medical doctor and his interest in philosophy and psychology, Dr Hassed's stress release programme teaches 'mindfulness', a simple and effective way of relieving the stress and fatigue that we experience in this modern life. Mindfulness increases self-awareness and observation which helps us all in our day to day lives, both professional and personal.

Know Thyself is a practical guide which explains the link between our mind and body and teaches a programme of renewal to find the balance that we all need.

About the Author

Dr Craig Hassed (MBBS, FRACGP) was trained in medicine at Melbourne University and graduated in 1984. From the beginning Craig had a strong interest in a holistic approach to medical education and practice but generally there was little input at that time from important humanities topics such as philosophy, ethics, sociology, mind-body medicine, psychology and theological issues. These interests led to a focus on mental and physical wellbeing rather than simply treating illness. His subsequent work as a doctor led him down a general practice stream with an emphasis on counselling, mind-body medicine and meditation. In 1988 Craig decided to make a contribution to bridging the missing links in medical education through the Monash University Department of General Practice where he has been teaching ever since. In that time working with others he has been instrumental in introducing topics such as stress management, meditation, mind-body medicine, holistic and integrative medicine approaches to under and postgraduate medical education. Since the beginning of 1999 Craig has also been writing a regular column for the Australian Family Physician on the "Philosophy of Medicine" which was compiled into a book in 2000 called "New Frontiers in Medicine."
