Question:  Hi, I'm looking for a good therapist in the Ipswich area Qld. I've suffered depression for many years, which is managed, most of the time. I have seen a psychiatrist in the past, also a psychologist. I like the idea of a psychoanalist from reading here about the different types of therapy. I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere with the psychiatrist, no offence to anyone. For me at that time, it was just a lot of writing on their part and talking and script for prozac. Any recommendations appreciated. Regards Susan

Answer:   Genuine psychoanalysts are a pretty rare bird now Susan and I doubt if you'd find many in Ipswich. A search of Brisbane would probably prove much more fruitful. Psychoanalysts usually insist on multiple sessions per week, which can be very time consuming as well as expensive. Perhaps you might consider a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist. You'll probaby have to do a good deal of research and asking around to find a suitable person but since it's so important, the effort and wait will be well worth the while. Good luck and be persistent. I think you're on the right track.
