bulletArticles & Book Reviews bulletbullet Bottom line is... I'm scared.

Question:  I am 51 years old and have been suffering from panic attacks for more than 7 years.  I have tried to get to the core of the problem by seeking help with a number of different practitioners but nothing seems to be working.  Will I ever be able to overcome this mental disability?  I've started to have bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts.  Bottom line is: I'm scared.

Answer:  There are a number of strategies you can pursue simultaneously. Many hospitals run cognitive behavioural group programs for anxiety and panic disorders, so I strongly recommend you investigate this. Also, a carefully monitored course of medication for anxiety and depression may reduce some of your symptoms. A psychiatrist can help you with this. Finally, finding a good psychotherapist who can support you with all of the above may be helpful.
