I wasn't a bad husband or father, but I wasn't good either.

Therapy is not something I'd ever considered until a couple of years ago.  Even then, I was ambivalent. If it weren't for my marriage of 15 years biting the dust, I'm sure it would still be the furtherest thing from my mind.  I had no idea that seeing a therapist once a week for a few months could change things. Initially, I went along mainly because my wife pressured me to. I didn't see the point at first, as far as I was concerned, everything was just how I thought it should be.  A successful career, nice home, three good kids, life was good.  No, better than good.  It was pretty dam good.

Looking back though it's hard not to cringe.  I wasn't a bad husband or father, but I wasn't good either.  It's clear to me now that I was often off the mark.

My counsellor was an intelligent, cut-to-the-chase type of guy, and didn't cost an arm and a leg (no offence intended).  Money was a major issue for me, but I can honestly say that in hindsight I would have happily paid double.

I'm presently single but have a close relationship with my kids, and I'm giving some serious thought to what I want to do with the rest of my life.  I can't put in words what therapy did for me, can't even say I understand it.  But somewhere along the way there was a dramatic shift in my thinking.

Thanks for a great site!  I know it's early days but there needs to be more therapists with profiles.  Your shop has an excellent mix of books, and the general feel is professional and in keeping with your objectives.  Best wishes and warm regards, Nathan
