Find a Therapist Search Tips

How to Search Good Therapy's Practitioner Directory

1. Click Find a Therapist on the menu to the left.

2. Select your Location from ONE of three search options:

  • City or City Region
  • Suburb or Postcode
  • State or Country Region

(Not selecting a location will result in an Australia wide search.)

3. Select preferences from one or more of the Special Criteria fields provided.

4. Click the Search button on your right.

If the criteria you select, returns a nil result it is most likely because you have entered a suburb or postcode.
Try broadening the search area by selecting a region from either the City OR Country location dropdowns.

Search Results

You will notice that the criteria you selected appears at the top of the search results page.

Profiles in search results are ranked depending on whether they are an exact match, near match or location match.

Exact Match - profiles that match all selected search criteria***
Near Match - profiles that match a portion of selected criteria**
Location Match - profiles that match only the selected location*

Although names of practitioners are ordered alphabetically within match categories, results will start at a different letter in the alphabet for each new search. We think this is fairer than always showing names starting with ‘A’ first.

Profile summaries on search results contain practitioner’s name, accreditation, practice locations, and phone number. Their photo, philosophy or vision, range of experience and fees may also be included. To view full profile page, either click their name or See Profile.

You can shortlist up to ten practitioners by ticking the box provided. Click View Shortlist to see the list you've created and Print Shortlist for a copy of your shortlist - five profiles per page.

Practitioner Profiles

Navigation bars are located at the top and at the foot of profiles. From here you can:

  • Return to search results
  • Go directly to the next or previous profile
  • Shortlist
  • Print profile
  • Send to a friend
  • Email the practitioner
  • Visit their website (if they have one)
  • View any articles posted or events entered in the site's Calendar

Modalities (Types of Therapy) listed on a profile can be clicked for a short description of a practitioner's preferred approach.

Making contact

We recommend talking with two or three therapists before making an appointment. You may want to write down any questions that you wish to ask the therapist, before you call.

As many therapists do not have a receptionist, there is a good chance you will get their message bank. Don't be put off by this, leave a message that includes your name and contact number. Practitioners normally return calls within a short time.

During the phone conversation, it is important that you are not pressured into making an appointment. If you want to think it over, thank the practitioner for their time and say you will get in touch when you're ready to make a decision.

If you email a practitioner, remember that not all therapists check their emails as regularly as they do their phone messages. You may have to wait a day or two before you get a reply. Always include your name and contact phone number with your message.
